"Separated from his product, man himself produces all the details of his world with ever increasing power, and thus finds himself ever more separated from this world. The more his life is now his product, the more he is separated from his life."
-Guy Debord
People collect because it makes them feel like they have been somewhere or done something special and unique. I create work based on collections comprised of drawings and other things like Christmas ornaments, pillows, and scrunchies to create a world in which I feel comfortable: with pretty decorations, many acquaintances and soft lighting. By creating this world I will be able to become one of my drawings, live inside of it and take people with me to show them all the parts of the drawing and it will become real because we will all be there, witnessing it together.
I use handmade costumes in video, performance and photography. I am interested in why people feel better or freer in a costume even when the costume is uncomfortable or cumbersome. When I make costumes and dolls that perform team-building tasks together, I create situations so others can remember how to exist together despite their flaws; to count on each other instead of their collections. Maybe these situations will make them think of their childhood or someone they love or something like that. Maybe it will help them remember something they forgot. Or maybe they will see how important other people are and how hard it is to take care of one another.
